Homemade Loukoumades aka Mr.Puffs!

I'm not greek, but I can say I make great Loukoumades. It may not be exactly what your greek grandmother used to make, but to be completely honest with you they taste exactly like the Loukoumades in Mr.Puffs. My first time having Mr.Puffs I fell in love with it, but I had no idea it was greek delicacy, until one day I was scrolling on Instagram and saw a Mr.Puffs post with the #loukoumades. Wow I've been living under a rock! Trust me this will be the only recipe you need, I've made it many times and it has turned out great every time!

Servings for 5- Please read directions.

Ingredients and Measurements:

  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) dry yeast
  • 2 cups flour (more if needed)
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Vanilla extract and/or cinnamon (optional, with or without, it will still taste great!)
  • 4 cups of oil for frying (or as needed)

Directions:
  1.  Add the yeast in the lukewarm water and milk, then set it at a warm place for about 5-10 minutes, you will see it dissolve and froth.
  2.  After put in the remaining ingredients into the mixing bowl and mix well until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Cover the top of the bowl, with saran wrap or/and a kitchen towel at a warm place, till it is about three times its previous bulk, for about 1-2 hours.
  4. Heat the oil, between medium to high in a saucepan.
  5. Make the loukoumades a circular shape with your hand and/or an oiled teaspoon. (dip spoon to oil every time dough begins to stick on spoon.)
  6. Fry loukoumades until golden brown and transfer to a serving dish lined with kitchen paper.
  7. For additional flavour, add honey and sprinkle cinnamon with chopped walnuts. OR my personal favourite, melt half a cup of chocolate chip and 1 teaspoon of oil into the microwave and mix every 30 seconds till it is a liquid, add to your loukoumades for 2 servings.

Thank you soo much for reading my blog, please let me know if you have tried them and let me know what you think!
